2020 Pool Season
The Greenwood Homeowners Association Board of Directors (BOD) met for the monthly meeting via Zoom on Tuesday, June 2, 2020 at 7:00 pm. At that time, they discussed several issues related to the impact the COVID-19 pandemic has had on the community along with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) guidelines and the Governor’s and Fairfax County’s Phase-in policies for re-opening various establishments.
The well-being of the community and all its residents is of the upmost importance to the BOD. In keeping with the latest information available from the CDC, Fairfax County Health Department, the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors, our corporation’s General Counsel, our insurance carrier and the Pool Contractor (who attended the meeting to discuss their concerns and insights), the BOD made the very difficult decision to close the Greenwood Community Pool for the 2020 season. No one may enter the pool area at any time.
This was not an easy decision for the BOD to make. The safety and health of the residents, and those who staff the pool, was the main priority. The numerous and severe restrictions under which the pool would have been allowed to operate, including very limited entry and usage, safety, sanitation, cleaning and social distancing requirements, and related legal issues were important factors in their decision.
The BOD acknowledges that residents are not getting the full benefits of the pool facility and they will be exploring ways to address this going forward along with looking at how unexpected COVID-19 related costs will affect the community in the future. The BOD sincerely hopes this type of decision will not have to be made in the future and that everyone can look forward to the 2021 pool season under dramatically better circumstances.
